Maine is a unique place we love and take pride in, a state with hard-working and resourceful people, multiple food-system based networks and organizations, ample agriculture and fisheries resources, and great potential for producing and processing more food for its population and for the region.  Maine can be a leader of food system change, and an important part of that change can only come about through the influence of food-serving institutions on our food system.

Maine’s institutions have power to impact our food system and those they serve through purchasing and serving fresh, healthy, local food. Institutions can also use their human, intellectual, cultural, and economic influence, in combination with a strong commitment to contribute to the greater good of the place where they are located, to act as truly beneficial anchors and shapers of their communities.
